We know that being successful in your studies is important to your future career. We also realise how important your decision is on your choice of education. So we hope we have answered any questions you may have had about the college and our courses. However, based on our experience, we've a good idea of the sort of issues that are of concern to most students. To help you with your decision, we'll therefore try to answer some of the most common questions we're asked. Of course, if we've left out any of your other questions, please contact us so that we can answer them as well.

Will I be able to have individual help if I need it?

Yes. By limiting the number of students in each class, by giving you help outside lesson time when necessary, and by providing you with direct access to senior members of the college staff, we ensure you'll have all the individual guidance you need.

Will I be able to follow the classes?

Yes. To help you understand the classes, we provide you with free LCIBS training manuals. These enable you to prepare in advance for classes and to familiarise yourself with essential subject-related vocabulary. Of course, we're sure you'll still have some difficulties with your studies - all students do, especially in the early stages of their course. But with the help of the manuals, and with the various other forms of support available, we're sure you'll be able to keep up with the course if you put in the necessary effort.

Is it necessary to buy lots of textbooks on all the different subjects?

No. Your manuals will detail the main principles and concepts for each subject you study. Other materials will be provided as handouts as and when necessary. Where any other additional reading is required, you can borrow the books that are available at the college.

Will I be able to improve my language skills while I'm studying?

Yes. Although LCIBS is a business school, not a language school, international students who meet our English language entry requirements find that their language skills do improve while studying with us.

When do the courses start?

There are 3 start dates each year, (January, May and September), 3 study modes (full-time, part-time and fast-track) and a range of course lengths (from 3 months to 3 years). This allows you to choose the study package that is most suitable for you.

If I begin on a short course (say 3 months), can I extend onto a longer course later?

Yes. If you decide you'd like to study with us for a longer period, it's easy to extend onto a longer course.

Is there any training to help me find a job after I finish my course?

Yes. As well as the training that prepares you to do a job, we also want to help you get a job after you finish your studies with us. All students on our standard diploma programmes are given special training on job search strategies and techniques, and this, combined with the total approach that we apply to our training, means our students find employment rapidly after completing programmes with us

How will my work be assessed?

You'll take exams in each subject at the end of each term. Your attendance, punctuality, effort and coursework will also contribute to your final grades. If you put every effort into your studies, and show in your exams that you've learnt effectively from what's been taught on your course, there's no reason you should not be able to complete your studies successfully.

Is it possible to study another subject instead of Computing Skills?

Yes. If you're already familiar with the applications taught in Computing Skills (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), our 'Subject Exchange' facility allows you to opt out of this training and choose another subject of more interest and benefit to you. Please let us know if you'd like to do this.

Is the college accredited?

Yes. The college is accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further & Higher Education (BAC).

How do I apply?

You can apply online, by post or by fax. See ways to apply for full details. Whichever method you choose, we'll process your application as quickly as possible, and let you know if we are offering you a place. Please don't send any money with your application. You'll only be asked to pay a deposit after you've been offered a place.

When should I apply?

To be sure of a place on your chosen course, you should submit your application form as soon as you can. We accept applications up to two years in advance of the course start date. The latest date we advise you to submit your application form is four weeks before the course start date, though we are often able to consider applications after this deadline. If you have missed the deadline for applications, please contact us to find out whether your application can still be considered.

Can I visit the college before submitting my application?

Yes, you're welcome to do so. Phone us to make an appointment, or come and visit us when next in our area.

What if I have any other questions?

Please contact us so we can answer them as well!
