Language and Study Skills
FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

International students studying at UK universities can experience many difficulties with the English language demands of their courses. These difficulties can be even greater for students who are not only struggling with the English language but are also unfamiliar with the teaching and learning methods used in the UK education system. It is therefore important that students intending to proceed to university in the UK develop their language and study skills for higher education. A programme at LCIBS can help students to do this by providing them with the opportunity to develop their language and study skills in the following areas:

  • Reading and understanding business texts.
  • Listening to and understanding lectures.
  • Participating in class discussion.
  • Preparing and giving oral presentations.
  • Applying their analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Applying their numerical skills.
  • Completing written exercises and assignments.
  • Completing assignments as part of a group.
  • Studying independently.
  • Planning and managing their time.
  • Preparing for and taking exams.

To ensure success on a degree programme, it's essential that students develop their ability to cope with the above activities - in English - before they begin their university studies. A course at LCIBS prior to university enables students to do this, as they'll be able to practise all the above skills extensively as they proceed with their programmes. During their studies, students' development in the above areas is monitored by all their lecturers who will provide feedback and advice to students on their progress.
